The next generation Mitsubishi goes on sale

Quest Motor Manufacturing this year has been abuzz with the production of various motor vehicles at their Mutare manufacturing plant. The end of the year 2015 seeing the downing of the curtain with the introduction of the all-new Triton double cab 4x4 made in Zimbabwe for our local market. It’s amazing how smooth and better 4x4s are being built nowadays, as this Mitsubishi Triton is a quiet car-like drive which makes it more comfortable and a joy to drive. The softer and quieter SUV type ride, complemented by the functionality of a traditional load bin, prompted Mitsubishi’s engineers to label it a Sport Utility Truck (SUT).

This is the fifth generation Mitsubishi pick-up and by far it’s most advanced commercial vehicle to date. The new model has already started raking in accolades in countries where it has been introduced, including that of 2015 Truck of the Year by Auto Express in the UK. These awards give you peace of mind and that reputation which speaks volumes.

The new Triton DC 4x4 offers a surprisingly quiet ride and cabin comfort reminiscent of a passenger car, while in the new Triton functionality and reliability required for tough working conditions are as present as ever. The sleek and flowing design of the new Triton results in a dynamic and elegant look, as well as improved aerodynamic performance that contributes to better fuel efficiency.

It boasts a bold grill framed by bi-xenon lights, strongly accentuated flanks and a larger load bay. The new design harks back to the popular Colt which was the top-selling pick-up in the early 2000’s. Its design does not only result in a more spacious interior, it also allows for a comfortable reclined seating posture ‒ especially in the back.

The wider interior angle of the side windows also provides additional shoulder space inside the cabin, providing a relaxing ride for both driver and passengers. Seat shapes have been updated with thicker side bolsters and tighter support for drivers to maintain a natural driving position and to reduce driver fatigue on long journeys. Festive season is here, it will be an easy ride to the rural areas in this vehicle.

The Triton’s innovative design results in a class-leading turning circle of only 5.9 metres and makes it a pleasure to drive in congested urban areas and harsh off-road conditions alike.

The fully revised suspension enables car-like ride comfort and superb driving stability. Stiffer suspension springs and expanded stabilisers in front reduce body roll, provide quicker handling response and ensure a safer ride when the driver is required to make sudden manoeuvres to avoid obstacles. The combination of finely-tuned rear shock absorbers and an extension of the rear leaf springs further contribute to a quieter and more comfortable ride.

The jewel in the new Triton’s crown certainly is its new-generation 2.4 litre turbo diesel engine. Its quick response at low revolutions, along with the improved aerodynamic design of the new Triton, drastically improves fuel consumption, responsiveness and acceleration. The 6-speed manual and 5-speed automatic gearboxes contribute to a smooth and nimble driving experience similar to that of passenger cars.

The top-of-the-range 4x4 double cab derivatives offers Mitsubishi’s unique state-of-the-art Super Select II 4-wheel drive system, which is also, used in the Pajero and Pajero Sport ranges. This system offers four types of driving modes including full-time 4WD and 2WD which improves cornering performance. Full-time 4WD provides better stability on wet and slippery roads and offers excellent safety at sudden changes in road conditions when torque gets distributed between the front and rear wheels to master changing road conditions.

This 4-wheel drive system is considered to be one of the most advanced off-road control systems in the world and played a major part in Mitsubishi’s unmatched performance during the gruelling DAKAR Rallies where Pajero raked in 12 wins, seven of them in consecutive years.

It provides high levels of safety achieved through the liberal use of high-tensile steel and the introduction of various active safety technologies in the construction of the RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body structure. Mitsubishi has also added the necessary high-end safety equipment to the Triton double cabs, including 7 airbags and ISOFIX mounting points for baby seats. All models are fitted with a collapsible steering wheel column, designed to retract in the event of an impact.

In order to help avoid collisions the new Triton is equipped with active safety technology such as ASTC (Active Stability & Traction Control), ASL (Adjustable speed Limiter) and TSC (Trailer Sway Control) mated to the ASTC-system.

The new Triton has not only built on the off-road capabilities of its Pajero and Pajero Sport siblings, but offers many of the same luxurious appointments. A higher quality finish than the current Triton and some finer touches such as the glove box dampers make for easier operation and for convenient daily use.

The all new Mitsubishi Triton Double cab 4x4 straight out of the Mutare Quest Motor manufacturing plant will be available this December.
